Gene Kelly. Su verdadero nombre era Eugene Joseph Currany nació el 23 de agosto de 1912 en el seno de una familia obrera, en uno de los barrios de trabajadores siderúrgicos de Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, donde estudió en la escuela de danza de su madre. También lo ayudó a financiar su educación universitaria.

Además de trabajar como obrero, bailaba en conciertos locales con su hermano, Fred. Gene Kelly se graduó como economista en la Universidad de Pittsburgh y en medio de la Gran Depresión económica, abrió un salón de bailes donde enseñaba y desarrollaba su propio estilo. Debuta en Broadway en el año 1938. Consigue el éxito con el papel que da título al musical Pal Joey (1940). Es contratado por los estudios MGM en 1942.

Fred Astaire. Frederick E. Austerlitz (Fred Astaire) nació el 10 de mayo de 1899 en Omaha, Nebraska, EEUU. Hijo de un inmigrante austríaco y vendedor que estaba de viaje y su esposa Ana Geilus Austerlitz.
Aunque su familia era de origen austriaco, Fred Astaire nació y se crió en Estados Unidos. Desde muy pequeño destacó por sus dotes para la danza. A la edad de cuatro años aprendió a bailar siguiendo el ejemplo de su hermana Adele, 18 meses mayor, con la que formaría dúo musical
